Learning guitar is a journey. There is no point along the way that you will say I’ll stop learning the guitar. There is always something new or techniques to be learn. Almost all of the guitar player now are still learning because it is our passion and it will be yours too.
Learning to play guitar requires two sets of skills
1. Physical skills- learning how to use your body and hands and where to place your fingers to play chords and scale notes.
2. Mental skills- it leads to the total domination of the fretboard. It’s about understanding the chords and scales how they work and its relationship. And understanding the fretboard and how to navigate around it.
Unfortunately, physical skill is the most beginners make too many mistakes. They developed a bad habit that makes playing harder and difficult for them.
We have to train our bodies and muscles to perform efficiently to become effective and have a better result at a shortest possible time.
The biggest problem here is the TENSION on your body. You have to free your body from any tension as possible from head to toe to the tips of your fingers. Tension makes your playing very stiff and it’s become harder to play and your rhythmic pattern will sound sloppy.
Here are some tips:
1. Don’t grip your guitar neck too tight because it makes harder for you to shift chords quickly.
2. Release the tension in your shoulder, neck, elbows and hands, so you can move freely.
3. Don’t try to play so fast too soon it will result too many mistakes and you’re programming yourself into a wrong way.
When you practice you need to be as relax as possible and you need the least pressure to successfully play the chords or notes.
Perfect practice makes perfect. That means you need to practice slowly and relaxed and accurately as possible. Doing this programming your brain with the correct techniques and habits, therefore the end results will be very rewarding. You can play faster and effortless and most off all perfect timing.
Always remember. The main goal here is to crate a music that makes your listeners enjoy and so as you.
Find a perfect time for your practice.
If you have a job or if you are a student use your break time to practice or dedicate an hour or two for practice before you go to sleep. Practice it every day.
Quality Practice
Focus on one lesson until you make it perfect. Be strict and no cheats allowed. Don’t jump into another lesson if you cant play perfectly the previous lesson.
Use it and apply it. Remember, Taking lessons without applying is nothing.
Enjoy your journey and Have FUN.
